It’s that time of year again. Tomorrow starts a brand new year, and it’s often the time when we look back on the year and decide what resolutions we will make for the new year. Several years ago, I came upon the idea of simply selecting three words for the year. It works much better for me than resolutions. The idea is pretty simple. You select three words that will define your next year. They then become the north star, guiding what you do and the decisions you make along the way. I have loved doing this and find it really does help me be focused. So, here you go: My three words for 2017!
This has been one of my words consistently for several years. The idea of being inspired and inspiring others has always spoken to my soul. I want to be inspired by the things around me. I want to be inspired to always been growing and improving. I want to be inspired to write more, to create more, and to share more. I want to inspire others to see in themselves what they can’t and inspire them to find the success and happiness they deserve in life.
Intention. In 2017, I will do all things with intention. Sometimes it’s easy to forget there’s a reason for the things we do, the things we say, the way we act. I want to always have purpose and intention in life. For me, that will include what I fondly call BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals), focus, and action. Living with intention also means being intentional about who I spend my time with. It’s said we are the product of the five people we spend the most of our time with. Sometimes that means you need to really evaluate where you’re investing your time. It means I will be very intentional with my business, always being sure that the things I do are focused on the end goals. It also means I’ll be intentional with relationships. Sometimes it’s so easy to just speak without a pause button, I know I’m guilty of that from time to time. Intention will require me to slow down, think, and then speak.
This year will be my “year of yes.” In January, I am participating in a book club with the book Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. I’ve read it and cannot wait until our discussion starts tomorrow. It is an amazing book, filled with lots of insight if you really read and apply it to your life. It’s about saying yes to things that petrify you. We live in a world where we are always being told we just learn to say no. And while there are some times in life when it’s good to say no, what if we started saying yes to some things? How about saying yes to health, yes to personal development, yes to creating new opportunities, so many things. I cannot wait to see where this one takes me!
So there you have it! My three words. How about you? Have you picked a word, or words? If so, I’d love to hear what you have chosen in the comments! I look forward to this new year and all it will bring!
