Choosing a Direct Sales Mentor or Sponsor
I want to talk about some tips for selecting a mentor today, but first, take a look at this picture! Yes, awesome new charms just released this last week! We’re always introducing new things and that is so exciting!
Today let’s talk about how to choose a mentor for your new business venture! It’s such a critical part of what you do in direct sales. Selecting the right person can be the key to making your success easier. Having a great mentor doesn’t mean you don’t have to do the work, it just means you will have support along the way as you build your business.
I have had so many phone calls in the last few weeks with folks looking at joining South Hill Designs. As we have talked, it has reminded me how very important it to select just the right person as you start a new business.
When you’re looking for a mentor, I believe it’s wise to actually interview a few. This is an important decision and not one that should be taken lightly. You want someone who will be invested in and supportive of your success, as well as someone you “click” with.
Find someone whose values match your own. For me, this is a huge one because I want to interact with and do business with people who are like-minded when it comes to the values I have in life. Spend some time getting to know the person so that you have a good feeling that you have a good match.
Ask what their plans would be to support you in your new business. Do they offer coaching calls? Are they available for questions? What kind of training can they provide for you?
What kind of success have they had in their own business and what things have they done to make that happen? You want a mentor who is actively doing what you want to do. It’s not enough to simply sponsor people into this business and then leave them hanging. You want to know that your mentor is working their business and knows how to teach you to do the same.
Find out what kind of support you will have from your mentor’s upline. Are they also available? And along those lines, what kind of success are they having in the company? Having a solid line of folks to support you assures that if something happens with your mentor, you have a back up plan.
Ask questions about what’s expected of you as a member of the team. Be sure that you’re joining a team where you are going to be engaged and that you’re willing to do that. I think teams are a lot like puzsles. If one person is missing, then you have an incomplete picture. This part is really more about you than the mentor. Know that you can have all the support in the world, but it still means you have to work your business!
The direct sales business is really an awesome place to be. The opportunities are great, the friendships you will develop can be lifelong friendships, and you can achieve the dreams you want for yourself and your family! I’d love to help make that happen for you if you’re seeking that next opportunity for yourself! Email me and let’s chat!
Last, I leave you with this quote, which is what I wish for every one of you!
“So she decided to live the life that she deserved, so that she too could give others the life they deserved, and she lived happily ever after.” – Unknown
